I do not know the emerald package but if faumw8r is expected, then the
key point is to use

updmap-sys --enable Map=emerald.map

Map says that you install PS fonts, the DVI drivers as well as pdftex
should search for PFB files, while MixedMap says that PK fonts may be
generated from MF sources.
