It doesn't make any strange sound on my Powerbook.
It took about 40 min to install from DVD, that is about twice the time
an install from the CD-image (of one of the beta versions) took.
System 10.3.9 on a 1.25 GHz Powerbook with 2 G of memory.
Installing on WinXP on a 1 GHz Pentium 3 to an empty NTFS volume took
about 1 hour.
(Almost full install, I just omitted the documentation I can't read.)
